Abstract

Metal phthalocyanine derivatives have attractive major interest as functional substances. However, metal phthalocyanine derivatives have been utilized in only a few fields because of their lower solubility in common solvents. At present, syntheses of soluble metal phthalocyanine derivatives are required.
Cobalt octakis (alkoxymethyl) phthalocyanines were synthesized as metal phthalocyanine derivatives having relatively shorter soluble alkoxy-substituents at the peripheral site on the phthalocyanine ring. Reduction and oxidation properties of cobalt (alkoxymethyl) phthalocyanines were estimated by the measurement of cyclic voltammograms.
The cyclic voltammogram of cobalt octakis (hexoxymethyl) phthalocyanines showed four cathodic and three anodic peaks. Cobalt octakis (hexoxymethyl) phthalocyanine has two irreversible oxidation and two pairs of reduction potential.
The reduction and oxidation of metal octakis (alkoxymethyl) phthalocyanines were due to the interaction between the phthalocyanine ring, which was influenced by the conjugated π electron current of the porphyrazine ring, and the central metal.
