Partially substituted ethyl silicates were synthesized by the transesterification reaction of ethyl silicate with 2-substituted ethanol. The cation-exchange resin catalyst having sulfo group was favorable as a catalyst. Hydrolysis of these silicates was studied at 60°C in water. Partial substitution was enough to enhance the hydrolyzability of silicates. Alkoxy, dimethylamino, and chloro substituents were consequently found to enhance the hydrolyzability of 2-substituted ethoxy groups, as well as ethoxy groups.
