Abstract

Novel branched waxes, which are composed of polyethylene chain and dimethylsiloxane dimmer (branch unit) was developed, and their effect on the hardness of oil wax gel was examined.
Among the branched waxes, a center-branched type, named ESE, improved the gel hardness dramatically when blended with n-paraffin. This may be because that ESE can make the wax crystal in the gel smaller without decreasing the wax crystallinity. By using ESE, the total amount of wax in a lipstick was decreased by 30% without spoiling the stick toughness, which resulted in lipsticks with glossy application and smooth texture.
