The way in which people evaluate clothing is greatly influenced by the composite elements obtained from both the specific clothing itself and the various background settings in which it is worn. In this study the influence and interrelationship between 5 different types of clothing and 3 specific settings (library, in town, indoors) were investigated by using computer graphic techniques. The Correlation Coefficient for each item was obtained for 10 pairs of adjectives by using 7 graded measurements of the SD Method from which the elements "showy" and "refined" were selected. Regarding the clothing evaluation elements which most influenced the choice of clothing itself and the background setting "showy" and "refined" were both obtained at influence levels of 1% by two-way analysis of variance. By plotting the descriptive pair "showy" / "conservative" on the x-axis and "refined" / "vulgar" on the v-axis the results obtained by virtue of the average scores revealed that the "showy" / "conservative" element had the greatest influence on the type of clothing chosen while "refined" / "vulgar" was confirmed to influence the background setting the most.
