An Error due to Harmonics in a Rectifier Type Indicating Meter

Abstract

When the current or the voltage whose form factor is not equal to π/2√2 is measured with the rectifire type indicating meter, an error is caused. The error for the current expressed in the form of i=I₁{1+a_nsin(nx+φ_n)} is maximum or minimum in the next conditions. n odd: φn=0 & φn=π, n even: φn=0 & φn=π/2. Errors in these cases have been calculated and shown in Fig. 3, 4 & 5. When an is small, the error in the case of even harmonic is smaller than in the case of odd one, but is not equal to zero. When n is larger than four, the value of the error is maximum and is about -10% when an in nearly equal to one.
