Abstract
New analog type data reduction system, which is high in reliability and yet so simple in handling that it can be carried into factory shop for data reduction on the spot, was designed. As a first step of its designing, the average rate meter was sample-manufactured to make sure of the actual use of divider. This meter can be used for computing various average rates. If the running distance as an input and time are given when it is used by an average speed meter, for example, it automatically computes average speed by the operation of divider and indicates it as an output. The most important part of this meter is three sets of analog type divider wich adopt the position-controlling servo mechanism to maintain high reliability and accuracy standing external disturbance. By alternately operating two of the three sets of divider, sectional average speed can be continuously obtained without skipping over any part through the whole course. By means of another one set, over-all average speed totaling the average speed covering the starting point to the end is obtained. Each output is indicated in digital amount by the mechanical counter installed on the front side panel of the meter. The result of accuracy test shows that each divider operates with a high accuracy of less than ±0.2% as far as input is not smaller than 5% of full scale.
