Development of excavator simulator and characteristic of operator

Abstract

To investigate the characteristic of an excavator’s operator, excavator simulator was developed. 8 screens surrounding the operator give not only front images but also back images. The motion base gives the operator the sense of motion. With this simulator the characteristics of operator were measured. In the most of the time and frequency the operator looked at the bucket, and he could not respond properly to the target apart from the bucket.
