Abstract

This paper proposes an algorithm of the contrast enhancement of the retinal fundus images using regional histograms. First we extract the background of the retinal area, then divide it into several regions according to their illuminations. Lastly, we adjust the illuminations in each region and enhance the image contrast. We show the effectiveness in extracting blood vessels.
