Abstract
The strength of silk increases when it is treated with tannic acid. Tannic acid absorbed in the non-crystalline part of silk helps in increasing the bonds between the molecular chains by their mutual interactions. The strength of silk fibers decreases when this treated silk was mordanted with ferrous sulphate. The break down of chains occured due to the mordanting.
