Abstract
A silkworm race with extra-fine filaments and high stainability, ‘Reimei,’ was developed using genetic recombination technology. The cocoon filament size was approximately 1.5 denier (d), making it the finest among current commercial silkworm races. Owing to its excellent stainability and fine cocoon filaments, ‘Reimei’ has attracted considerable attention as a high-end silk material. To establish a standard rearing procedure suitable for this race, we conducted a reciprocal crossbreeding test, a restricted feeding test during the fourth instar period, and feeding rate measurements. Based on these results, a standard rearing procedure suited to ‘Reimei’ was established. In addition, ‘Reimei’ was reared by sericultural farmers three times in 2021. Although some variation was observed in the rearing process, overall performance was consistent with the established standard procedure.
