Graft polyrmerization using a redox initiation system of potassium peroxidisulfate and 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate onto silk fibroin fiber pretreated with 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane was investigated. The pretreatment was performed in the mixed solution of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and water, and varied the ratio of IPA/water and time of pretreatment. The values of graft-on for the pretreatment system were larger than that of non-pretreatment system. Deposited polymer for grafted silk pretreated in IPA only system was observed on the surface of the fiber by means of scanning electron microscope.
