Abstract

Surgery is the first-line treatment for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) ; however, to date, no standard treatment strategy has been developed for locally aggressive cSCC. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to assess the efficacy of a multidisciplinary treatment approach in two patients with locally aggressive skull-invasive cSCC. In both patients, concurrent docetaxel/cisplatin/fluorouracil treatment (TPF, an induction chemotherapy regime for head and neck cancer) and radiotherapy (RT) significantly decreased the tumor size without any severe adverse events. Moreover, radical surgery after TPF-based chemo-RT (CRT) lead to complete remission in both patients. Although TPF-based CRT commonly causes severe febrile neutropenia, our multidisciplinary treatment prevented adverse effects by making suitable modifications, including the adjusting of drug dosage. Overall, our findings suggest TPF-based CRT as a potential preoperative treatment strategy for locally aggressive cSCC. [Skin Cancer (Japan) 2024 ; 39 : 20-25]
