A 64-year-old woman with a history of repeated shaving of keratotic lesions of her feet herself, presented with black macules and two red nodules on her left sole accompanied by diffuse hyperkeratosis of her hands and feet. Genetic analysis revealed a mutation in SLURP-1, and the patient was diagnosed with Mal de Meleda (MDM). Histopathological examination of a nodule confirmed diagnosis of melanoma. Evaluation following tumor resection and sentinel lymph node biopsy showed a melanoma (pT4bN0M0, Stage IIC). She received systemic therapy using pembrolizumab ; however, brain metastasis was detected 3 months postoperatively, and the patient died of carcinomatous meningitis 6 months postoperatively. Few studies have reported malignant melanoma associated with MDM ; however, it is likely that SLURP-1 may function as a tumor suppressor gene.[Skin Cancer (Japan) 2024 ; 39 : 8-13]
