Abstract
An 85-year-old woman had a mass below the left auricle for about 30 years and consulted a local physician due to its enlargement. A diagnosis of apocrine gland carcinoma was made by skin biopsy, but she refused surgical treatment proposed by the physician. After about 3 months, the mass enlarged further accompanied by pain and bleeding. The patient visited our hospital asking for non-surgical treatment. At the first examination, the tumor was 6cm in diameter, and radiation therapy at a total dose of 69Gy was performed on the basis of the patient's age, tumor size and site, as well as the patient's wishes. Since the tumor size was reduced after about 3 months, extended resection and skin grafting were carried out. No recurrence has been noted over about 2 years after the initial examination. In the modern aging society, ambulant radiation therapy leads to improvements in patients' QOL. In this patient, extended resection became possible by this approach.Skin Research, 12: 331-335, 2013
