Abstract
A case of nodular cutaneous lupus mucinosis(NCLM) is reported. A 36-year-old woman presented in January of 2002 with a six-month history of multiple nodules on the back, upper extremities and cheeks, which were as big as 1cm in diameter. She has been diagnosed systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) at the age of 17. Histopathological examinations with H-E stained biopsy specimens from subcutaneous nodules on the back revealed separated collagen bundles with deposition of a large amount of mucin, stained with colloidal iron. We diagnosed NCLM associated with SLE. Some authors suggested that the development of NCLM was associated with an activity of SLE. In our case, eruptions of NCLM disappeard in a few weeks with systemic and topical corticosteroid therapy.
