Abstract
A 48 year-old woman with inappropriate genital bleeding probably due to menopausal disorder had been treated with an intravenous injection of estrogenic hormone agent and an oral agent combined estrogenic hormone and luteinizing hormone. About twenty minutes after taking a latter agent, she developed systemic urticaria, discomfort in throat and dyspnea. Then she was admitted to our hospital and diagnosed as an anaphylaxis possibly induced by former medications. Scratch tests revealed a positive reaction to a combined agent (Norluten®D) itself and an ingredient of luteinizing hormone (norethisterone), which considered to be the causative agent. The patient did not remember the previous intake of the drug. Therefore, it is possible that an autoimmune reaction is involved in the mechanism of the present reaction.
