Abstract
S-3470 ointment and cream containing 0.025% dexamethasone 21-acetate was shown to cause very weak reactions in human closed patch tests. The vasoconstrictor activity was more potent than 0.06% Rinderon V ointment or cream in vasoconstrictor assays using occlusive dressings. Open clinical studies were carried out to evaluate the ointment and cream in the treatment of various types of eczema and dermatitis. Twelve eczema cases were treated with the ointment, and 13 eczema-dermatitis cases with the cream. The proportion of cases judged as very effective or effective was 92% for the ointment and 100% for the cream. No side effects were observed during the treatment. It was concluded that S-3470 ointment and creamwere safe, effective and useful topical prepaations for the treatment of eczema-dermatitis.
