Abstract
Twenty-two patients with chronic urticaria were treated with 0.2% granules of E-0659 (Azelastine), an oral antiallergic drug for 18 days on an average. Improvement was noted in 81.8% of patients, with 18.2% remaining unchanged. Drug safety was not questioned at all in 81.8% of patients and considered a little questionable in 18.2%. The reasons were gastric discomfort, drowsiness and taste abnormality in one case each and a very slight elevation in GPT activity in 2 cases. The general usefulness rating which was determined in coordinated consideration of efficacy and safety was 81.8%, and the drug was assessed as useless in 18.2%.
Our results seem to justify the conclusion that E-0659 can be a useful drug for symptomatic treatment of chronic urticaria.
