Abstract
A 63-year-old Japanese man presented slowly enlarging black tumors on both helices of the ear that had been present for 9 month. Histological findings revealed typical basal cell carcinoma. However, atypical spindle cells, that were arranged in cordlike infiltration, were present in areas of deep invaded tumor nests. In addition, the lesions composed of large atypical squamoid cells like a squamous cell carcinoma contiguous to basal cell epithelioma were observed. From 1988 to 1994, 4 cases of basal cell epithelioma of the ear out of 150 cases were found in computerized survey at our department.
