Abstract
Tourism has changed recently. The needs of tourists create diversification in tourism. This is always based on the history, culture and natural scenery of the place visited. Therefore, the interpretation of a town’s history and nature is getting popular. For this reason, cultural tourism has possibilities of developing. Kamikochi is located in the Chubu-Sangaku National Park was chosen for a case study. Interpretation at Kamikochi has had a good reputation for a long time. And two different types of interpretation were done by the Visitor Center and The Japan Alpine Club. A Guide-Walk, interpretation at outdoors was carried out by the Visitor Center. Mini-Talk, a slide show of nature was shown by The Japan Alpine Club. The purpose of these interpretations was to find a good subject for the Guide-Walk and the Mini-Talk. The findings show that the interpretation was very effective for cultural tourism. However, the cooperation of Guide-Walk and Mini-Talk is not enough. Kamikochi has various resources for sightseeing. Considering the diversity of sightseeing Kamikochi must undertake a more cooperative study. In order to realize this, unification of the local area is necessary. Cultural tourism in Kamikochi has possibilities for not only sightseeing but also in the area of Environmental Education.
