We report our calculation of the long distance matrix elements which are necessary for the inclusive decay rates of the S- and P-wave states of charmonium and bottomonium using quenched lattice QCD. In particular, we carry out the calculation for the color-octet contribution to P-wave decay from the first principles of quantum field theory, which cannot be accommodated in potential model.
