Abstract

This paper investigates a number of materials from Uji Syuui Monogatari, examining changes over time in the narratives included in postwar Japanese language arts textbooks for high school students. Although there were few literary teaching materials in the immediate postwar period, these gradually increased due to the growing interest in literary research. Over time, literary materials were increasingly adopted for educational purposes, such as familiarizing students with narrative constructions. However, the interest for the works in literary research has changed over time. Therefore, it was suggested that there are some educational material values that do not function effectively in the present day. As an issue for Japanese Language Arts education, it is important to create value as educational content by such as comparative analyses of narratives or the same characters across narratives.
