Abstract

Sound environments were changed from comfort to discomfort, and the brain-wave characteristics of 30 subjects aged 18 to 75 years old were observed during the entire process of sound environment changing. The following interesting results were obtained from the experiment as mentioned above; (1) As a basic tendency, alpha waves are prominent under the comfort environments, and the proportion of fast waves (beta waves, gamma waves) increase under the discomfort environments. (2) The 14 subjects aged 21 to 50 years old clearly show the above tendencies; nevertheless, the six young subjects (under 20 years old) and the 10 advanced-age subjects (over 50 years old) hardly show these tendencies.
