Abstract
Recently, paper cushioning has been used extensively for product protection. A molded pulp cushioning is one of the typical paper cushioning and eco-friendly materials. However, there are some technical issues for molded pulpcushioning to improve further. Unlike block form cushioning which design process is standardized(eg. expanded polystyrene, formed polyurethane), molded pulp cushioning which have thin wall structures and formed for each product haven't been standardized for the cushioning design method. The prediction of the acceleration level during impact is difficult particularly. Additionally, it might be a Problem that the lead time would be long if a mold tool needs to be fixed often. And the cost of mold tool is generally quite high. In this paper, the development of a new type mold tool for molded pulp is discussed. It is feasibIe to predict the acceleration level by using a set of molded pulp components which cushioning property is known. Furthermore, this mold tool would be able to adjust a number of products even in one tool because of the frexibility to change the position of components or the quantity of them in a base plate.
