Abstract
In order to improve the capacity of moving field type magnetic separator, the authors developed a cone type separator adapted travelling magnetic field induced by revolution of permanent magnets. The separator manufactured for trial consists mainly of a cone type rotating magnet holder (diameter is 1, 500mm) and a vibrating separation cone placed on a short distance from the surface of revolving magnet.
The following became clear after the investigation on the characteristics of the separator, (1) the magnetic particles in a powder move in a direction opposite to that of the magnetic poles by the individual spining motion, (2) the vibration of separating cone accelerate the moving rate of particles, (3) the utilization of baffle plates on the surface of separating cone improve selectivity, (4) the suitable frequency of travelling magnetic field is 25 to 30Hz for separation of magnetite and iron sand and is 50 to 60Hz for micaceous hematite, (5) in case of separation of micaceous hematite (magnetic susceptibility is χ=70×10-6-100×10-6emu and particle size is d=147-63μ) the capacity is about 12t/24h.
