The existence of virtual self - Information society considered from a detective story -

Abstract

This study aims to make cyberspace a more fascinating place, and intends to present the vision for that. When we discuss a problem in cyberspace at present, we would not be able to avoid the problem of big data. However, such issue has been dealt with only from a technical point of view mainly. In fact, it is existence as us that operate objects in cyberspace. Therefore, by referring to the argument of Walter Benjamin, this problem is discussed in terms of human existence. Focusing on the structure of the detective story as one of the reference point, a detective story is compared with a cyberspace. Then, some points have been found as follows. : The similarity between the technique of the connecting of traces that a detective uses and the link structure built from combination of a node. The limit of diverting a modern detective method into cyberspace.

This is connected to a modern problem by referring to argument of Pierre Lévy who studies philosophy of information. Here, after considering the nature of big data, the existence of virtual self (as our reproduction) in cyberspace will be sketched. A promenade person (Flâneur) in argument of Benjamin is a motif of this existence. In this study, cyberspace is grasped as the promenade-space of virtual self who consists of big data, and it is discussed from our experience and creativity. When considering future of cyberspace, these points become a useful standpoint.
