This paper tries to show a possible contribution of aesthetics to popular culture studies. In order to do so, I introduce the idea of ‘criticality'. In chapter 2 I trace the idea of criticality back to its origin and take a look at the transformation of the idea in the field of art and art theory from the 20th to the 21st century. In the third chapter I find the idea in current popular culture. Then in the final chapter I propose the ways in which aesthetics can contribute to popular culture studies from the point of criticality.
