Abstract

The aim of this paper is to examine quantitatively clarified , From the perspective of Citizen Science, this study utilized Open Data on Traffic Accident Statistics to analyze the aggregation and distribution of the number of traffic accidents in Japan at the macro level, covering all of Japan, by tabulating the number of accidents by prefecture and visualizing those using GIS.The results showed that (1) the number of accidents per 1,000 population was prominently high in Fukui Prefecture, which ranked first with 25.63 accidents.(2) The ratio of urban area occurrences by prefecture was high in Ibaraki, Osaka, Aichi, Fukuoka, and Kanagawa prefectures, as was the number of accidents per 1,000 population.(3) Traffic accident locations tended to be concentrated in the three major metropolitan areas and northern Kyushu. (4) The most concentrated hotspot with an estimated kernel density of 89 was found in the center of Umeda Shinmichi, Kita-ku, Osaka City, extending 1500 m east to west.
