Developing Media Literacy Utilizing Personal Data Visualization Tools

Abstract

This study examined the development of media literacy regarding the data accumulated by platforms through a workshop on visualising personal data. Participants first watched a video about personal data, and then checked their own stored data using a visualization tool and discussed it in an interactive workshop. The results showed that the combination of video viewing and workshop practice increased the participants' willingness to manage and control their own personal data and enabled a certain level of development of media literacy regarding personal data.
