Abstract

An online survey was conducted targeting 1,000 Japanese women, and the following three main findings were revealed. Firstly, those who knew more about hashtag feminism were younger, used more mass media and SNS to find out news, and used a wide variety of SNS. Secondly, many gender issues were perceived as social ones rather than gender ones. Thirdly, critical attitudes toward gender issues were associated with a more progressive attitudes towards gender roles and a desire for gender equality, while negative attitudes toward harassment and gender inequality were associated with greater exposure to mass media and the number of SNS used to get information.
