Abstract
The purpose of this study is to construct a psychological scale to measure the effect that takes place in Basic Encounter Groups, namely psychological development of their participants. To do this, the psychological development in Basic Encounter Groups was conceptualized according to the experience of facilitators. As a result, the psychological development was summarized in the following five : (1) Participants in Basic Encounter Groups begin to share their inner feelings with others honestly, (2) they become confident of themselves, of their existence, (3) they develop good relationships with other members of the group, (4) they begin to feel that they can live as the way they are, and (5) they begin to have trust in other people's acceptability. Based on these five items, we made and modified questions, which resulted in the construction of A Scale to Measure the Effect of Basic Encounter Group, with twenty-seven items. It has such subscales as 'communication of inner feelings, ' 'self-trust, ' confidence in human relationship, ' 'self-consistency, ' and 'trust for human acceptability.' It's validity and reliability has also been verified.
