Abstract
In the present study, we treated 34 patients with decreased saliva production and various other symptoms related to the oral cavity with pilocarpine hydrochloride and subsequently examined their subjective symptoms and objective findings over time. The results revealed a significant improvement in the subjective symptoms, including xerostomia, feelings of viscous saliva, mouth sensitivity to food, loss of taste, and dysgeusia, improvement was also seen in the objective findings, including xerosis, foamy saliva, redness of the tongue, saliva production, and gustometry. Pilocarpine hydrochloride taken orally for symptoms associated with xerostomia was found to be effective.
