Abstract
We herein report four cases with recurrent/relapsed IgA nephropathy after tonsillectomy who were treated with epipharyngeal abrasive therapy (EAT). In principle, EAT was performed by rubbing the nasopharynx through the external nares using Compound Iodine-Glycerin® once a week. The clinical characteristics of the patients, changes in urinary occult blood (urinary sediment) and urinary protein, urinary protein/Cre ratio, and eGFR were measured at the beginning of EAT and every 10 times thereafter. The clinical characteristics of the patients at the beginning of EAT included remission after tonsillectomy in 3 patients and not achieving remission in 1 patient. After EAT, urinary occult blood improved in all patients at 40 times, urinary protein improved in 3 patients, urinary protein/Cre ratio improved in 3 patients, and eGFR was unchanged in all patients. EAT may be effective for the treatment of recurrent or relapsed IgA nephropathy.
