Modified observation methods by use of Contact-endoscope for fungiform papillae surface on the tongue

Abstract

Contact-endoscope is a useful tool for evaluation of the tongue microstructure. However it is difficult to fix the endoscope on the tongue continuously due to instability of the hand. We devised a stable fixed method. With the suction-irrigation system on the endoscope for sucking the tongue, the best negative pressure was 200cm H₂O. In addition, we used the endoscope holder. Using this method, it is possible to observe the tongue microstructure for a period of over sixty seconds.
