Development of a new environment-friendly high-strength bolt

Abstract

In order to develop a new high-strength bolt that contributes to consideration for the environmental issues, the authors conducted FEM analysis and tensile test using prototype bolt to understand its fundamental mechanical properties. Some bolt head shape which has smaller volume than conventional one was compared and examined by analysis, and tensile test was performed to confirm that tensile strength of the prototype exceeds the design strength. The new bolt named CE high-strength bolt, can reduce the weight by about 10% while having the same mechanical performance quality compared with the torshear type high-strength bolt.
