Experimental study on load sharing in steel I-girder repaired the lower flange by patch plates subjected to bending

Abstract

Patch plate repair and reinforcement using high-strength bolted frictional joint is used as a repair method for corrosion. There are not many study cases conducted on load sharing of girders subjected to bending. In this study, full-scale experiments of I-girder repaired the lower flange subjected to bending were conducted to clarify the effects of the bolt arrangement, thickness of the patch plates, and the number of the patch plate on the load sharing of patch plates and the repaired lower flange plate. To obtain the repair effect, it is desirable that the thickness difference between the patch plate and the lower flange is small and using two plates. In addition, the bolt arrangement should be evenly distributed and densely in the section where the load is transferred to the patch plate.
