Abstract

The Hanshin Expressway, established in 1964, has played an important role as a major artery of the Kansai metropolitan area. In recent years, the company has also been working on simple repairs, called inspector’s first-aid works, to repair damages found during inspection at the same time as the inspection is conducted. However, the proportion of aged structures that have been in service for more than 40 years accounts for approximately 50% of the total length and the number of structures that require repairs are increasing. This study analyzes the current status of inspections and inspector’s first-aid works and describes the issues involved.
