An investigation on a series of cyclic loading tests and numerical analyses is presented using a new type of bracing system that is composed of both a tension and a compression member. This system is aimed at providing a stable lateral load-displacement(H-Δ) relation owing to an un-buckled tension member left even after the compression member buckles. As expected, the test results are such that a series of stable H-Δrelations have been obtained even after the compression member buckles. Then with the help of the numerical analysis method, the test results are extended to obtain stable axial force-axial displacement relations of each of the composed bracing members. Finally, the test results are discussed with regard to the low cycle fatigue of members.
