Abstract

When the shear-load capacity of a side wall of RC caisson foundations is evaluated, the experimentally derived calculation formula for beams is currently usually applied. However, since a caisson foundation is subjected to the ground reaction force, the shear-load capacity of such structure may be affected by the difference in the supporting condition. In this study, the shear-load capacity of the side wall was evaluated by the non-linear finite element analysis, which can more realistically reflect such conditions. As a result, it was found that the side wall had a larger capacity and avoided shear failure. This means that it is desirable to rely on the non-linear finite element analysis for evaluation of the shear-load capacity of such underground structures as caisson foundations.
