Abstract
The concept of early-stage chronic pancreatitis(CP) was established in the Clinical Diagnostic Criteria for Chronic Pancreatitis 2009. No definite or probable CP cases that show more than two of the four clinical conditions and show typical images in EUS or ERCP are diagnosed as early-stage CP. Only established late-stage CP could be diagnosed by previous diagnostic criteria for CP. On the other hand, the new diagnostic criteria can reveal pancreatic injury and enable treatment for preventing the onset or progression of CP. The new diagnostic criteria were created as expert opinions and require sophisticated assessment of many cases to evaluate their feasibility.
