Abstract
Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms(IPMNs) have been attracting attention as a precancerous lesion in the pancreas. The standard treatment strategy for IPMNs was detailed in the international consensus guideline published in 2006. However, there is still controversy regarding the management of branch duct type IPMNs. It is not uncommon to hesitate whether to undergo resection or not because of the postoperative influence, especially after pancreaticoduodenectomy. Therefore, we examined the utility of 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography(FDG-PET) in evaluating the malignancy of IPMNs with 13 resected cases in our center. Of the 13 cases, 3 cases were non-invasive carcinoma, 3 cases were invasive carcinoma, and 7 cases were adenoma. Diagnostic sensitivity (100%) and specificity (86%) were very high. From this result, FDG-PET could be one of the modalities that helps in deciding the indication for resection in IPMNs.
