Abstract
We investigated the correlation between the severity of post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP) and dose of drugs for pain control of PEP by the prospective data analysis of 33 PEP cases that occurred from 1209 ERCP related procedures.
Statistical analysis of PEP severity and assessment of pancreatic pain was determined numerically by the drug pain score (DPS) for each of the 33 cases at the drug dosage used to manage PEP pain.
Correlation between severity of PEP and DPS was recognized statistically by Pearson's Correlation Coefficient r=0.657 p<0.0001.
Determination of adequate cutoff level of DPS for the prediction of aggravation of PEP, if the cutoff level of DPS was assumed 2, predicted an aggravation rate of 31%, sensitivity and specificity were 1.00 and 0.97, respectively.
Thus, cases with a DPS of 2 and greater require more attention for aggravation of PEP.
