In order to determine chloride ions of samples such as sea water, brine, mother liquid, bittern and common grade salt, by use of Technicon's Auto-Analyzer automatically, a flow diagram of colorimetric method was prepared and examined.
The results were as follows; The sample solution is acidified with 0.5% HNO3 solution and with 0.4% Hg (SCN) 2 and 20% Fe (NO3) 3 solutions. Then it is flowed into the colorimeter and after a color complex is formed, the chloride ion is measured.
In this method the absorbance of the solution was linear to the concentration of chloride ion to 3,000mg/l. This method has the same accuracy as the conventional Mohr's method with the coefficient of variation under 1%. The speed of analysis was continuously 40 samples per hour excluding preparation and dilution of sample.
