Abstract
A graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometric method combined with 3, 5-dichlorosalicylaldehyde-4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone (CSPS) extraction technique was studied for the determinationof copper in sea water and common salt. Copper formed a complex with CSPS, and wasextracted into diisobutylketone. The optimum conditions on the extraction of copper were examined. Micro amount of copper was quantitatively extracted into 1ml of 5×10-4M CSPS diisobutylketonesolution from aqueous solution at pH 5.0 by shaking for 5 min. Copper concentratedin organic phase is determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Goodrecoveries of copper added to artificial sea water and sea water samples are demonstrated. Somesamples of sea water and common salt were analyzed. This method is simple, rapid, and sensitive for the determination of copper.
