Abstract
Homogeneous non-crosslinking anion exchange membranes have been prepared by amination of methyl methacrylate-chloromethylstyrene copolymer with secondary and tertiary alkyl amine, and effects of the reaction conditions and amination reagents have been investigated. The membranes were prepared by cast method, and the results showed that the composition of the cast solution affects membrane permselectivity. These membranes were soluble in a variety of organic solvents and exhibited good dimensional and chemical stability in H2O,1N HCl, 1N NaOH and 2N NaCl even in the absence of additives or reinforcer. The weakly basic anion exchange membrane aminated with diethylamine showed excellent permselectivity, that the transport number in 0.01M/1.5M KCl solution was 0.97 and showed the permselectivity in the pH range of 2-10.
