Abstract
The heat of cation exchange of alkali metal ions with H+ using a commercially available cation exchange resin containing -SO-3 groups was measured with a precision calorimeter. The thermodynamic quantities such as ΔG0,ΔH0andΔS0 for ion exchange were estimated using data of ion exchange equilibrium constants as well as the heat data. Multiple measurements of heat in K+ /H+ exchange revealed that they are reproducible within amargin of 1% error. Values of ΔG0,ΔH0and ΔS0 obtained in the present experiment seemed reasonable compared to those in the previous measurements.
