Abstract
In recent years, alternative schools have been attracting attention as another educational option other than school education. What is called an alternative school in Taiwan is called a free school in Japan, and neither was recognized as a school. Therefore, efforts have been made to seek legal status in both Taiwan and Japan. In the process of seeking legalization, the role of administrative agencies is important. In this study, I would like to clarify the reasons why alternative schools were legalized by law, and the role of government agencies regarding alternative schools, which have become experimental education.
