Tumor Induction by Subcutaneous Injections of Soot to Infant Mice

Abstract

Pulse doses of soot abtained from heavy oil combustion were injected subcutaneously to infant ICR/JCL mice, and the animals were observed for 30 months.
Total tumor incidences in male of mice injected with soot or benzo (a) pyrene were statistically highly significant (X2 =7.85-12.24, p<0.01-0.001) as compared with that of vehicle control, but those in female treated with soot or benzo (a) pyrene were contradictory. Tumors were found mainly in the lung, lymphoreticular tissue, and liver in both sexes. In the experimental groups, average survivals in male bearing pulmonary tumor, leukemia or liver tumor were shorter than that in the control, but those findings in female were also contradictory.
