Abstract
A simple method was developed to determine fluorometrically trace of atmospheric ozone. Ozone was ampled by using an impinger with an aqueous solution, which included p-acetamidophenol (AAP) as a fluorogen at pH 8.5, and allowed to react with the AAP to form its fluorescent dimmer. 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-phenylacetic acid (HVA) and p-hydroxyphenylpropionic acid (HPPA) also useful, but AAP was judged to be the best substrate. The ozone was determined by fluorescent intensity of the medium at λex 337 nm and λem 425 nm. The detection limit was 2 ppb for 10 L of air sample. Good lineality was obtained between ozone concentrations determined by proposed method and those obtained by an ultraviolet-absorption ozone analyzer (r=0.99).
