Abstract
The aim of this paper is to outline the history of the origin and development of the Dhammathats, the collection of rules embodying the customs and usages of the Burmese people in the kingdoms of Burma, which are the main source of Burmese Law, and to trace briefly the research done on the Dhammathats up to the present, since special efforts were made to print, edit and translate them from the palm leaf manuscripts and so on by both foreigners and Burmese between the end of the 18th Century and the end of the 19th Century.
